American Spa’s Women In Wellness

Every year, American Spa honors women who are making an impact in the spa and wellness industry. The annual Women In Wellness Awards shines a spotlight on exceptional women who are “transforming the wellness world with their noteworthy contributions, such as serving on related industry boards and organizations, discovering untapped opportunities, giving back, and bringing their unique perspective to all that they do.”

An Inspiring Educator And Trainer

We’re delighted that Natalie was named a finalist in this year’s Educator and Trainer category. American Spa says: “This award honors a woman who is making a difference in education and sharing her knowledge of industry topics, products, equipment, and more.”

Q&A With Natalie Pergar

American Spa sat down with Natalie to learn more about women, wellness and working at Eminence Organic Skin Care. Read on for the full interview.

Why do you think women are particularly well suited for leadership roles in the wellness industry?
Women are instinctively drawn to the wellness industry, as it helps to heal, care for others and provides a calming, relaxing experience. We’re also fantastic multi-taskers and highly collaborative. With wellness industry positions held predominantly by women, and ISPA research finding 70 percent of spa customers are women, it makes sense for the leaders in the industry to be representative of this.

What advice do you have for aspiring female wellness leaders?
To women aspiring to be leaders, I would say it’s best to keep an open mind, don’t be afraid to challenge yourself, and keep learning from those who are younger and older than you, as everyone can teach you something new or show you a different perspective. It’s also great to keep an eye out for opportunities as you don’t want them to pass you by.

Why do you think women are such a valuable part of the workforce?
Women bring a unique perspective to situations, challenges and scenarios and also communicate in different ways. I believe the more diversity of thinking in a workplace, the better for everyone.

How do you cultivate future female leaders at your company?
Eminence provides many forms of support for those in leadership positions, such as leadership training hosted by women, conflict resolution seminars and strengths coaching. The company also seeks to promote from within where possible and encourage the growth of team members.

What skills should women cultivate to become better leaders?
My advice to be even better is to never stop learning, embrace your strengths and use them to help others. Know your weaknesses and learn from them to continue to grow. Self-awareness helps you gain confidence in who you are, without needing to pretend to be someone you’re not. This confidence will also radiate from within and help you become an amazing leader.
