DIY Soy Candle with Reused Eminence Glass Jars

Who doesn’t love the beautiful scent and warm ambience of a burning candle?

We have a simple DIY project that involves making your own all-natural soy candles with nothing but a few glass jars, soy wax flakes, essential oils and candle wicks…

In keeping with our green values, we reused empty jars from our Biodynamic® products for this DIY project because - let’s be honest - they’re too pretty to simply throw away.

What you need:

  • Soy wax flakes
  • Candle wicks
  • Empty glass jars (we used Éminence glass jars from our Biodynamic® Collection). Mason jars are also a great option.
  • Essential oils (we used lavender & citronella)
  • Dried lavender/herbs (optional)
  • A hot glue gun (glue dots are another option and they’re available at most craft supply stores)
  • Metal saucepan
  • A glass measuring cup (or another heat-safe container for pouring)
  • Strips of cardboard/reinforced paper
  • Scissors
  • Wooden spoon

The steps:

  1. Use a hot glue gun to glue the candle wicks to the bottom of your glass jars. Once in place, cut the wicks to size.
  2. Heat the soy flakes on stove top on low heat. Stir intermittently. Make sure not to leave the melting wax unattended.
  3. Once the wax has melted completely, remove the saucepan from stove. Be careful not to overheat.
  4. Transfer a portion of melted wax into the glass measuring cup.
  5. Add 4-5 drops of essential oil (depending on how strong you would like the scent to be). Mix through with a wooden spoon. *You also have the option to add dried herbs to the hot wax mixture at this step. For our mason jar candle, we added dried lavender.
  6. Slowly pour wax into glass jars (up to approximately 5mm from the top).
  7. Continue steps 4-6 until all of the melted wax has been used.
  8. Lay candles on a flat surface and let them cool for several hours before burning. Once the candles have cooled, you may also want to trim the wicks as needed.

What to do with the candles once your project is complete? We suggest applying your favorite Éminence masque, running a warm bath and lighting your DIY soy candles. Relax and enjoy the zen of your own at-home spa retreat.
