Could You Be Layering Your Products in The Wrong Order?
“Should I apply toner after I moisturize or before?” And, “What about my eye cream … should it go on first or last?” If you’ve asked yourself these questions, don’t worry - you’re not alone. Although there’s no golden rule around how to apply your products, layering them in the correct order determines how effectively your products absorb into the skin. As a general rule, the order in which you apply your skin care products should begin with the lightest to the richest consistency. Here’s an easy, ordered list to follow after cleansing, for optimal results:
Toners, toniques and hydrating mists infuse the skin with vitamins and antioxidants while hydrating and balancing your complexion. A toner also preps the skin to better absorb ingredients from the next steps of your skin care routine. Spray your favorite Eminence toner directly onto skin or moisten a cotton round with toner and gently swipe across the face, including the neck area.
Serums treat specific skin care concerns such as uneven skin tone, problem skin or the look of aging. Apply serum into the palm of your hand and pat on your entire face (don’t forget your neck area!). Eminence has a wide variety of serums suited to every skin type and skin concern.
For daytime care, a moisturizer with SPF is important to protect the skin from UV rays. An antioxidant moisturizer also helps protect against free radical damage. We recommend our Red Currant Protective Moisturizer SPF 32 which is packed full of powerful ingredients and SPF protection. Remember - even oily skin needs to be moisturized!
For nighttime, swap out your SPF moisturizer for a night cream like our Blueberry Soy Night Recovery Cream or our best-selling and award-winning Monoi Age Corrective Night Cream for Face & Neck.
4. EYE CREAM
Don’t forget your eye area! The delicate skin around the eyes is the first place to show signs of aging. Apply an eye care product like our Lavender Age Corrective Night Eye Cream by using your ring finger and gently patting around and under the eyes, focusing on any crow’s feet or fine lines.
