Flawless Skin: How to Get the Runway Look

New York Fashion Week is here - and that means cutting edge fashion, beautiful models and A-list celebrities.

While watching picture-perfect models strut their stuff down the runway, you may ask yourself, “How do they get such flawless looking skin?”. For most them, their impeccable look is the result of hours of primping and grooming from a team (yes, team) of some of the best makeup artists and hair stylists in the industry.

Although you may not have an entourage of makeup and skin care experts at your disposal, there are steps you can take to get the glowing skin that you’ve always wanted.

Below are a few “insider” tips from makeup artists and skin care specialists (including our own company president, Boldijarre Koronczay) that will give you camera-ready skin that’s fit for the New York runway.

1. Exfoliate

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: A healthy complexion needs exfoliation. Think of your skin as an artist’s canvas. Through exfoliation, you’re scrubbing away the dead, tired layers of skin and unveiling gorgeous, new skin underneath. After exfoliation, you’re left with a flawless, glowing canvas that’s ready to absorb the complementary products from the rest of your skin care routine. We recommend our Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant - this go-to exfoliant works well with all skin types.

2. Control Shine

Let’s not get confused between dewy skin vs. oily skin. A dewy complexion has a certain glow and a look of hydration that leaves skin looking fresh and youthful. In contrast, the unwanted shine that comes from oily skin often leaves a greasy appearance that can sometimes be accompanied by blackheads and blemishes.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, our company president, Boldijarre Koronczay, explains that keeping combination skin in balance isn't just about cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Treating skin with a mask is also advised. Boldijarre recommends our Balancing Masque Duo:

The divided jar has a Charcoal T-Zone Purifier to draw out oil that causes excess sebum for oil control and the other half of the pot is a Pomelo Cheek Treatment to restore the moisture levels of the dry areas of the cheeks."

3. Minimize Inflammation

There are a number of things you can do on a regular basis to reduce inflammation which includes - drinking plenty of water, eating fresh and organic fruits and veggies, and getting plenty of sleep. But what about a quick tip that will instantly keep your skin from looking inflamed and puffy?

Our one and only Boldijarre suggests keeping your products cool: "Rather than storing products in your bathroom or dressing table, put them in the refrigerator. By keeping the contents cool, it will help reduce inflammation and redness when applied to the skin and ensure more balanced oil production throughout the day."

This insider tip might be a little surprising to some of you, but it works!

4. Use a natural foundation

When foundation is done right, it appears as though you’re not wearing any makeup at all. To keep your look as natural as possible, it’s important to find a foundation that matches your skin tone. Tinted moisturizers are the way to go as they provide smooth and spotless coverage while moisturizing the skin with an added layer of hydration.

When prepping his clients for the stage, silver screen or runway, Parisian makeup artist Bruno Segni swears by our Tinted Moisturizers (available in Vanilla Latte, Cocoa Latte & Caramel Latte).

In an interview with Eluxe Magazine, Bruno confesses “I really like Éminence products. They’re great quality. This works on most skin types and I love that it has a built-in SPF”.

5. Keep lips looking soft and supple

When it comes to Fashion Week, it’s important that models aren’t only showcasing their skin. After all, the main point of focus is actually the clothes they’re wearing. So when it comes to the lips, it’s important to make them pop - but not too much.

Not only is Bruno Segni a huge fan of our tinted moisturizers, he also stands by our Cinnamon Lip Plumper as one of his makeup artist must-haves: “This is great for keeping lips moist and looks totally natural on all skin tones,” states the pro (Eluxe Magazine).
