Face masks aren’t “new” to the skin care scene, but they certainly seem to be making a comeback. From multi-masking, to posting mask selfies on Instagram (yes, mask selfies are a thing), this beauty staple seems to be getting a lot of attention lately.
In our opinion, the mask hype is warranted, and for more reasons that you may realize. So what’s the fascination with them? For one, masks contain concentrated amounts of vitamins and nutrients that treat and deliver incredible results to your skin. And to top it off, they can essentially treat any type of skin issue that you can think of: aging skin, oily skin, dehydrated skin, problem skin, uneven skin - you name it and there’s a mask for it.
To help you find your “mask match”, here’s a quick “cheat sheet” along with a few Eminence product picks from popular lifestyle bloggers and beauty editors.
Eminence gel masks have a similar consistency (and delicious scent) as your favorite berry jam, but that’s not to say that we want you to spread our Raspberry Pore Refining Masque on your toast. What we recommend instead is to slather that mask on your face once to twice a week. As a general rule, gel masks work best with normal to oily skin types, but there are exceptions. Our Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Masque, for example, has a gel-like consistency and works well with all skin types (including sensitive).
Beauty Editor Product Pick: Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Masque
Why they love it: According to bridal magazine The Knot, this mask is a superfood sensation that works from the inside out with “a blended concoction of vitamins and antioxidants [that] brightens and smoothes your skin”.
Think of the texture of a rich moisturizer (or butter cream icing – yum!) and that’s the best way to describe the texture of a cream-based mask. These masks do wonders for adding moisture and nutrients back into the skin. Cream-based masks like our Coconut Cream Masque and our Bamboo Age Corrective Masque work best with dry, dehydrated or aging skin while our Pink Grapefruit Clarifying Masque and our Clear Skin Probiotic Masque work wonderfully with problem and oily skin types.
Blogger Product Pick: Clear Skin Probiotic Masque
Why they love it: "I’ve definitely made an effort to use all-natural and organic products, and it’s been really fun discovering some new products that I have a feeling I’ll be using long after my pregnancy is over. I’ve been using Eminence Clear Skin Probiotic Masque to help keep pregnancy acne at bay.” - Camille Styles, Lifestyle Blogger (an interview with Style Bistro’s Linley Taber).
Eminence stimulating masks like our Hungarian Herbal Mud Treatment and our Eight Greens Phyto Masque - Hot vary in consistency but their common ingredient, paprika, is what makes these masks so unique (and effective). Paprika stimulates circulation and oxygenates the skin, producing a healthy and rosy glow. Although stimulating treatments produce effective and immediate results, they aren’t for everyone. If you have sensitive skin, you’re better off choosing a gentle cream-based mask like our Calm Skin Arnica Masque.
If you enjoy adding a little “heat” to your skin care routine, try spicing things up with these stimulating masks:
What if you want to target multiple skin concerns? Not to worry - there are masks in our repertoire that serve multiple functions. For those of you who want to hydrate your cheeks while addressing oil around your T-Zone, our Balancing Masque Duo does the trick.
In the Press Product Pick: Balancing Masque Duo
Why they love it: “Eminence understands that your face has many needs and that your shelving space is limited, so it conveniently packaged a Charcoal T-Zone Purifier mask next to a Pomelo Cheek Treatment to pair together at will.” – Into the Gloss
And finally, what about a mask that pulls double duty when it comes to combining skin care steps? Our appropriately named Rosehip and Maize Exfoliating Masque is a mask + exfoliant combo that will save you time and give your skin a healthy glow.
Blogger Product Pick: Rosehip and Maize Exfoliating Masque
Why they love it: Sweat the Style calls this mask a perfect summer essential for sensitive and oily prone skin types. “[This mask] improves the appearance of your skin and contains the vitamin C that makes it glow. Honey, lemon juice, and maize flour exfoliates, moisturizes, nourishes, and reduces the signs of aging.” – Adrianne Ho, Sweat the Style
